Each year, Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the U.S. from September 15^th to October 15^th to honor Hispanic and Latino communities and their important contributions to our country. The start of the month-long celebration recognizes the anniversaries of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Additionally, Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16^th and Chile on September 18^th. The month ends in mid-October because several Central and South American countries celebrate Día de la Raza on October 12^th to honor the people, cultures, and traditions destroyed by Spanish and European colonization.
