Plan Benefits: Tax Deductions - Tax Exemptions

North Carolina offers state tax deductions for North Carolina's National College Savings Program contributions.

Beginning with tax year 2007, contributions to North Carolina's National College Saving Program up to $2,500 ($5,000 for joint filers) per year are deductible in computing North Carolina taxable income. You should consult your financial, tax, or other advisor to learn more about how this may apply to your specific circumstances.

Account earnings are free from federal and, if you are a resident of NC, North Carolina income taxes when you use the money to pay for qualified higher education expenses.

The MetLife Protected Stock Fund offers a guarantee of principal plus the greater of a minimum guaranteed interest rate or 70% of the price appreciation of the S&P 500 Index (excluding dividends) following a Subscription Period and five-year Index Period, through a funding agreement issued by MetLife to the Program Administrator.
